14 Days Holi Festival Special Departure

14 Days Holi Festival Special Departure

Like the many coloured segments of a Rubik’s Cube expect every day on this trip to be turned, twisted and shaped to be as far removed from each other. Bridged across by places that speak of ancient history, spiritual rites, Buddhist hallowed grounds, national parks and a serene lake that is the source of a city’s pulse. Journey through one of the most populous capitals in the world and end up in a medieval square of what is perhaps the most famous capital in the Himalayan region.

Day 01 Namaste and welcome to Delhi

Namaste and welcome on board! As soon as you arrive at Delhi’s airport you’ll be scooped up by our representative and whisked off to your accommodation. If you arrive early you can either choose to explore some of the popular sites that Delhi has to offer or you can just put your feet up at the hotel and shake off your jetlag. Either way, your tour leader will meet you and your fellow travellers in the evening (6 PM) to discuss the finer points of the tour. If you feel up to it, start from where you left off and get to know your tour members over an optional group dinner.

Day 02 Delhi

Today we get into the thick of things. Get an insight into the morning of a regular Delhi office worker as you head off to Old Delhi on board the Metro. Wandering through Old Delhi is very much a study in contrast where a new world coats the old with a thin veneer. Explore its narrow streets, its winding lanes, and get a glimpse of the once ornate houses that speak of a forgotten age. Take a tour of the Jama Masjid – India’s biggest Mosque. Hop onto one of Delhi’s most enduring transportation – the rickshaw, and then get deposited at Siganj Gurudwara to learn a little about the Sikh religion. Take a break from this sensory overload and indulge in a meal cooked especially for us later in the evening. This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with a local in an informal setting. Don’t forget to bring your tact along to the table though!
Important:
Please be advised that we shall be visiting places of religious worship and therefore it is imperative that you are dressed conservatively.

Day 03 Agra

An early morning start sees us catching a train to the fabled city of Agra (journey time – approximately 3 hours). Once we get to Agra, drift into a decadent past as you step under the arches of the Agra Fort and understand its connection with the Taj Mahal. Just like Old Delhi, this too is a city stitched in patterns of the past and present. Weavers, artisans and craftsmen still hang onto traditions of old and an opportunity to visit them will present itself in the afternoon. Cap all this with a late afternoon/sunset visit to the monument that epitomizes eternal love – the Taj Mahal.

Day 04 Jaipur

Get ready for an awesome adventure today. We're cruising to Jaipur on a private bus (about 6 hours), the bustling capital of Rajasthan. Jaipur might be changing, but it still loves its movie traditions. Once we roll into town, buckle up for a ride through the original Pink City's lively streets. Pause for a pic at the Hawa Mahal, a bit like a forgotten giant cake with loads of layers! Don't be fooled; it's just a façade, but everyone snaps countless pics of this 18th-century wonder. Then, we're off to the Amber Fort, perched on one of the oldest hills globally – prepare for jaw-dropping moments! After that, dive into the Old City, where every street is a fashion show, and every shop is a gold mine. Time to shop like a pro, dance through the vibrant chaos, and turn Jaipur into a Holi masterpiece! Get ready for a blast.

...

Day 05 Jaipur

Today, we're diving headfirst into the kaleidoscopic chaos of Holi! It's not just a festival; it's an explosion of vibrant joy that turns the ordinary into a canvas of colors. Picture this: a riot of laughter, the swoosh of water balloons, and a symphony of hues that paint the town in pure ecstasy. Holi isn't just about splashing colors; it's about sprinkling happiness like confetti. We're on a mission to turn every frown upside down, one splash at a time! So, grab your water guns, don your most dazzling whites (that won't be white for long!), and join the carnival of colors. It's not just a celebration; it's a riot of radiance, a fiesta of fun, and a burst of bliss. Get ready to dip, dive, and dance into the whirlwind of Holi happiness.

Day 06 Varanasi

Today we fly to Varanasi, a one-of-a-kind city that lives and breathes a spirituality that is commonly associated with India. We walk along the eastern bank of the River Ganges as it washes the many Ghats (flight of steps) and provides sustenance to the ascetic, the devout and the ordinary who come to seek resolution on questions of life and death. Varanasi is a steady hum of activity where temple bells compete with the cry of boatmen, tea vendors and kite flyers. Lose yourself during the afternoon to these and other sights. As the evening approaches, hop on a boat from where we’ll bear witness to the flower ceremony and the fascinating evening rituals.

Day 07 Varanasi

We start at the crack of dawn today. Float across the gentle waves as life on the Ghats begins to take shape. Watch the pious pay silent homage to the rising sun amidst the loud, almost discordant note of the terns flying overhead. As the sun pulls itself up and over the eastern sandbanks witness the people trickling towards the river as if in a move choreographed by time. A splash of a bather, an earthen candle set alight, a washer man lifting his wet clothes, kites shaken... After completing this dawn boat ride we will return to the hotel for breakfast. The rest of the day is free but you can visit Sarnath, the place where Buddha achieved enlightenment. Alternatively, find some sensory satisfaction in browsing and slipping your fingers through the finest silk fabrics of which Varanasi is famous for.

Day 08 Lumbini

This morning we head for Nepal in the wee hours of the morning. While a packed breakfast will be arranged, lunchtime is almost always an improvised affair depending on the vagaries of traffic and road conditions. This is a massive day on the road (approximately 10 hrs) so sit back and enjoy that book you’ve been meaning to finish. Listen to some music or humour yourself with a good snooze. A few formalities need to be addressed at the India-Nepal border. Upon completion of these, an hour drive will get us to our accommodation in Lumbini.

Day 09 Chitwan

The day starts with a visit to the Maya Devi Temple, which is believed to be the actual site where Buddha was born. We then drive to Chitwan, approximately a 5 hour drive from Lumbini. Upon arrival we’ll loosen our legs and cycle leisurely through verges of mustard fields and into a small tribal village. An occassional view of a rhino shopping for local products in the middle of the street might present itself but don’t be disconcerted if you do and keep riding! After the activities of the day are done, we visit a local family and share a meal prepared exclusively for us

Day 10 Chitwan

After a delightful breakfast, we hop aboard a traditional dugout canoe, gently gliding down the melodious current of the Rapti River until we reach the commencement of our thrilling jungle safari. Amidst the tall grass, elusive one-horned rhinos play hide-and-seek, while stealthy sloth bears navigate the secretive world of whispering reeds. It's crucial to bear in mind that glimpsing these furtive creatures is a stroke of pure luck. Nature, with its own rhythm, unveils its wonders when it chooses. So, let's embark on this wild expedition with anticipation, knowing that each moment holds the potential for a serendipitous encounter with the untamed beauty of the jungle.

Day 11 Pokhara

Today, we set forth on a picturesque journey to Pokhara, navigating the winding mountain roads after a hearty breakfast. Upon arrival, let's dive into the city's charm with a leisurely walk to familiarize ourselves with its enchanting surroundings. Pokhara, nestled amidst stunning mountains, boasts a skyline adorned by the majestic Annapurna Range, overlooking the serene Phewa Lake. Renowned as one of Nepal's most beautiful cities, Pokhara is a playground for thrill-seekers, offering a plethora of adventures like bungee jumping, paragliding, and trekking. Get ready to soak in the breathtaking views and dive into the heart of excitement in this vibrant hub of adventure.

Day 12 Pokhara

The day starts with breakfast at our hotel. Take advantage of this free day to explore the Peace Pagoda, Devi’s Falls and Mahendra caves or just hunker down on one of the many restaurants that overlook the lake and watch the world go by. Enjoy an afternoon boat rde across the Phewa Lake, listening to the oars lapping lazily at the waters before heading to dinner Ask your tour leader who can offer advice on local activities and arrange them for you.

Day 13 Katmandu

With a delightful breakfast marking the start of our day, today signifies the tour's final stretch as we embark on a thrilling ride, lasting approximately 7 hours. This journey promises its own adventure, featuring breaks over suspension bridges, navigating exciting white waters, and enjoying breathtaking vistas of distant hills before reaching our ultimate destination, Kathmandu. Upon arrival, come together with your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner, where glasses clink in celebration of shared adventures and smiles that have stretched out for miles. As the sun sets on this journey, let the camaraderie linger, savoring the memories that have woven themselves into the fabric of our unforgettable experience.

Day 14 Departure Day
